This volume tells the unique journalistic career of one of the
outstanding 20th Century American media professionals, Herbert
Bayard Swope. He came from German stock and worked for many
years as the executive editor of the New York newspaper `The
World’, owned by the Pulitzer family. But he did not hesitate to
apply for a Pulitzer Prize and became the very first reporter to win
such an award in 1917. In the following decade, Swope was
successful to manage that several of his staff members also earned
Pulitzer Prizes. All of the award-winning materials are also documented
in this book.
