Beschreibung

The change of land cover and land use over years and decades
is an important factor in many ongoing natural, societal and
economic processes in our world. Modelling and simulating
the past, the present and the future of changes in land use
is a meaningful method to describe, predict or prescript
processes of global change.

This volume contains examples of such simulation
experiments. GIS-models, time series models or agent-bases
models are used. The scale of observation goes from
continental to regional. The application contexts are
regional planning, landscape ecology, climate change
research, social-ecology, energy potential research and even
archaeobotany.

Peter Mandl is Assistant-Professor for
Geography at the University of Klagenfurt and Speaker of the
German Working-Circle for Theory and Quantitative Methods in
Geography.

Andreas Koch is Professor for Human Geography at the
University of Salzburg and and Head of the Centre for Ethics
and Poverty Research, Salzburg.
