The Southeast Arm of Lake Malawi and its catchment provide
interdependent benefits and livelihoods to users, in
particular the poor, who draw upon on the various resources
(fish, land, water, forests, wildlife, etc.) in the area.
Unfortunately, management of these resources remains
fragmented, resulting in suboptimal social, economic and
ecological outcomes. This book is an attempt to demonstrate
the value of an inter-disciplinary approach in management of
the South East Arm. It is one of seven case studies under
the DARMA (Defragmenting African Resource Management in
Southern Africa) project.
Steve Donda is working as a Deputy Director
of Fisheries in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food
Security, Malawi.
Mafaniso Michael Hara is an Associate Professor at the
Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), at
the University of theWestern Cape, South Africa.
Maxon Ngochera is working as a Principal Fisheries Research
Officer at the Senga Bay Fisheries Research Center, SALIMA,
in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Malawi.
Erling Berge is a Professor of Property Rights Institutions
at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Aas, Norway.
