Border regions around the new eastern and south-eastern edges of the
European Union have seen the re-emergence of previous cultures and
ethnicities. This has caused a reappraisal of people’s relationship with
history. Border-related institutions established at international,
regional and local levels have endeavoured to make the border regions
places of cultural encounter, providing a new way forward for future
generations through new kinds of cooperation.
