Structural changes in society and the economy have led to a severe crisis in the
apprenticeship system. As only a few reform initiatives introduced by the Austrian
government were intended to improve the quality of the dual system, this study fills
the gap by developing an innovative apprenticeship training concept on the basis of
the learning organisation.
The apprenticeship training concept was matched with current business practice, and
the study shows how two leading firms have designed their apprenticeship training in
accordance with the principles of the learning organisation.
