Village democracy in Indonesia strengthens the argumentation that
developing democracy on the grassroots level is fundamental base to
support democracy on the broader scale. Democratization has become the
Indonesia’s political mainstream even in the village society after the
fall of Suharto regime. The existence of village parliament and
accountability mechanism must be seen as the radical change of village
political dynamic. And the role of democratic traditional institution
should be appreciate as the people’s way to support the ideas and
practices the deliberative democracy.
