This collection of essays is focused on critical analyses of Indian
writing in English in various genres of the modern to postmodern period.
Main sections examine the critical reception of Indian writing in German
media and the place of Indian literature in German schools; gender issues
in prose and poetry by Indian women writers; the work of major authors
like Salman Rushdie and Amitav Ghosh. The concluding section gives a
survey of work on Indian writing that has greatly increased in the German
academy. A bibliography of German criticism on Indian Writing concludes
the book.
