Beschreibung
Poor slum dwellers are faced with manifold risks in cities. Based on a
novel synthesis of sociological, cultural and planning theories, this
study approaches the communication of risks from a socio-cultural
perspective by taking into account the dimensions of power, justice,
fairness, trust, as well as knowledge and rationality. It thus contributes
to a better understanding of urban risk construction of poor communities
in India in contrast to prevailing notions of urban authorities. The book
is useful for practitioners and scholars who want to explore new horizons
in the study of risk management.
The author is an urban planner and anthropologist teaching at the
International Spatial Planning Centre, TU Dortmund University, Germany.
His current research interests include the study of cultural dimensions of
development, urban planning and climate change, governance and community
participation.
