Beschreibung
The question of salvation is at the very centre of every religion, answered by soteriology in Christianity. Christian concepts of salvation and redemption have changed over the course of around 2,000 years of history. Beginning with the Early Church, this work follows soteriological contexts from the Pantocrator of Late Antiquity to the suffering Christ figure on the cross in the Late Middle Ages, linking ideas of salvation with their political implications and the rulers’ claim to power.
Dr. Monika Eisenhauer is a medievalist, historian, and philosopher. Her work focuses on religious and social history, and on the history of ideas, complemented by theology, philosophy, and art history.
