Beschreibung

The book brings into focus diverse perspectives on the conflicts in the Middle East—particularly in the wake of 7 October 2023. It gathers voices from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Berlin, demonstrating how history unfolds not only in political events but also in lived experience. The volume includes essays and personal narratives, revealing how individuals in for example Beirut, Latakia, Nablus, or Germany interpret, endure, and theologically reflect on recent developments.

The texts speak about what is often difficult to articulate: fear and hope, historical traumas, German responsibility, Lebanese and Syrian wounds, Palestinian lived realities—and the impossibility of collapsing all these perspectives into one single narrative.

The book adopts a multi-narrative approach that creates space for honest and respectful exchange. It demonstrates how trust built over decades makes possible what often seems politically unattainable: a conversation that neither harmonizes nor relativizes, but truly listens.

Claudia Rammelt is currently a research assistant in the project “Between Intensification and Relativization. Modalities and Mechanisms of Religious Change among Muslim and Christian Refugees from Syria in Germany, Austria and Switzerland” at the University of Göttingen and is also connected to the Ruhr University Bochum through the project “Encountering Theology”.

Rima Nasrallah is academic dean at the Near East School of Theology (NEST) in Beirut.
