Bataringaya shows how Bonhoeffer’s ethics of peace is helpful beyond his historical context by giving us criteria of action as reality based, fair to the situation and appropriate towards the facts. By applying these criteria to the Rwandan context he provides interesting insights into the history of ethnic conflict in Rwanda, based on the history of human conflict already observed in the Bible, and then shows how a life orientation that takes into account the central insights of Bonhoeffer’s peace ethics can turn into a constructive potential for overcoming conflicts.
