Beschreibung
This volume contains the Pulitzer Prize-decorated reports by outstanding American journalists about the chaotic transitional period of collective leadership in Russia after the death of Stalin in March 1953, marked by a intense power struggle among Georgi Malenkov, Lavrenti Beria and Nikita Khrushchev. By 1955, Khrushchev emerged as the dominant leader, sidelining rivals and initiating early de-Stalination reforms, including releasing prisoners and initiating a `thaw’ in both domestic repression and foreign relations.
