The volume unites twenty-six studies on the history and heritage of Syriac Christianity in China and Central Asia. Drawing on the latest research in ecclesiastical history, manuscript and textual studies, epigraphy, material culture, and archaeology, it explores the diverse communities, networks, texts, monuments, and artefacts that shaped Christianity across the medieval Silk Roads.
From the missionary expansion and ecclesiastical institutions of the Church of the East to Syriac, Sogdian, and Chinese manuscripts, Christian gravestones, metalwork, and monastic remains, the studies illuminate a rich and interconnected Christian past. The volume also examines how this heritage is preserved, interpreted, and understood today, highlighting the continuing vitality and significance of the tradition.
