Beschreibung
In this book, Stefanie Everke Buchanan examines the ways in which German
identity is lived in present-day Melbourne. She defines key operative terms
such as identity, culture, community and symbols and rituals before the
background of societal processes such as globalization and transnationalism,
which, in turn, define the conditions under which migration from Germany
to Australia takes place. Her data is gained from empirical, ethnographic
fieldwork. As the focus group of her book is one of the most prominent
ethnic groups in the history of migration to Australia, she gives a brief
history of German migration to Australia to provide necessary background
knowledge.
