Beschreibung
A nation-state asserts regulatory power over its permanent
and temporary population through the application of
immigrant categories, which demarcate access to exclusive
resources. The research projects assembled in this edt.
volume investigate the legal and symbolic categorization of
migrants, with the overarching purpose of identifying
implicit social understandings of two migrant categories in
particular: international students and survival migrants.
The main concern of this volume is to observe how the
perceptions of different migrant groups have unfolded, and
by doing so it sheds light on the instances where legal and
symbolic categories have become socially inseparable.
